Ghosting (verb)

Based on the word GHOST*.

In reference to today’s dating culture, which is heavily based on virtual communication such as online dating sites or apps, texting, all other social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter etc., GHOSTING is the action when someone disappears from all form of communication.

For example, Harry and Sally meet on Tinder and go out on a first date. Harry thought the date went well and is interested in seeing Sally again. Sally, on the other hand, isn’t interested in seeing Harry again. Harry texts Sally, asking her on a second date, but she doesn’t respond. After many attempts, Harry still doesn’t get a response from Sally. It’s like Sally disappeared. She has probably already blocked his number and deleted it. Sally has ghosted on Harry.

According to Urban Dictionary**, the term GHOSTING has been around since 2006.
